Wow, very amazing and generous. Primal (Denver Bicycle Clothing Company Gave Back More Than One Million Dollars in 2013

A big believer in giving back to cycling and charitable organizations, Primal Wear donated more the one million dollars last year, a four-fold increase compared to its donations for 2012. Primal Gives Back More Than One Million Dollars in 2013

more than four-fold in one year

Primal Wear Gives Back

Primal, a premier manufacturer of cycling apparel headquartered in Denver, Colorado, donated more than a million dollars back to the cycling community in 2013 as a part of its ongoing commitment to the progression of cycling and cause-related organizations.

Through its dedication to sponsoring events and organizations that benefit people’s lives, Primal contributed more than $300,000 in cash and over $800,000 in product last year alone.

Overall, Primal’s charitable contributions increased more than four-fold in 2013. In 2012, Primal donated more than $220,000 to advocacy and charitable causes worldwide. This impressive increase can be attributed to several new national sponsorships and the continued growth of the Primal Gives Back program. Built on a solid foundation and strong sense of advocacy, Primal’s charitable contributions will continue to grow.

Through its support of more than 80 organizations around the world, Primal’s commitment to community is focused on fostering the growth of cycling through advocacy, charity, conservancy and competition. The company has been a long standing supporter of organizations such as the League of American Bicyclists, Bike MS, NICA, IMBA, Tour de Cure, Bicycle Colorado, People for Bikes, US Military Endurance Sports, Rails to Trails, the Alliance for Biking and Walking and Trips for Kids, among many more.

“Giving back is a part of our culture here at Primal,” said Dave Edwards, founder and president of Primal, “and as we’ve grown we have been able to drastically increase our commitments and support of organizations that make a difference in the cycling community and around the world.”

A major part of Primal’s contributions come through the Primal Gives Back Program, which is open to all teams who participate in a charitable cycling event. Through this program, Primal donates 15% of a team’s total custom order directly back to the company’s fundraising account. In 2013, the Gives Back Program generated more than $169,000 in additional fundraising for events like Pedal the Cause, Pan Mass Challenge, Bike MS, Tour de Cure, Courage Classic and the Dolphins Cycling Challenge.

Primal has already announced several new and continuing sponsorships for 2014, including partnerships with NICA, Bike MS, Tour de Cure, the National Bike Summit, Colorado Bicycle Summit, Sea Otter Classic and the Bicycle Leadership Conference.

Fort Collins named Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Community

Congratulations to Fort Collins and all Colorado communities that received awards from the League of American Bicyclists

Fort Collins Mayor Karen Weitkunat and New Belgium Brewing‘s Mike Craft toast news of the city’s Platinum award

We’re thrilled by the news that Fort Collins has been named a Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. The city moved up from Gold level.

Colorado is now the only state boasting two Platinum-level communities–Boulder is the other. Davis, Calif., and Portland, Ore., round out the list of four communities at the top.

The award process is rigorous. You can watch a video the City of Fort Collins produced and read its application, which details the work done to improve their community through better bicycling.

Two other Colorado communities joined the ranks of Bicycle Friendly Communities.

•       Crested Butte debuted at the Gold level (Colorado has the most Gold-level communities)

•       Greeley debuted at the Bronze level

Our state now has 19 Bicycle Friendly Communities, which we think says amazing things about riding bicycles for fun, transportation, health and competition.

What do you think? Leave a comment.

North American Handmade Bicycle Show Coming to Denver

Denver NAHBS on Track to Break Records
Very strong interest by Colorado and Japanese companies pushes the renowned international bicycle artisan show close to the 174 exhibitor record set at the 2011 NAHBS in Austin, Texas. 35 exhibitors from Colorado, 30 from nine foreign countries, including 16 from Japan.

DENVER, Colo.– A late influx of exhibitors registering after January 1 for the North American Handmade Bicycle Show, Presented by Shimano, at the Colorado Convention Center, Denver, 22-24 February, has raised the prospect that the 2013 show will be the largest yet in the nine-year history of NAHBS.

With three weeks of booth sales remaining, 171 exhibitors have signed up. The previous exhibitor record is 174, set at the Austin, Texas, show in 2011. The attendance record is 8,100, set at Sacramento last year.

The eyes of the cycling world will be on Denver during NAHBS. The 7,000+ attendees expected to attend the show represents the tip of the iceberg for an event, considered the world leader in the handmade sector, which has a following in more than 100 countries.2013 is the first time NAHBS, a traveling convention of bicycling’s handmade manufacturers, has set up in Colorado and the statewide response has been unusually positive.Three weeks in advance of the show, the contingent of home state exhibitors numbers 35, the highest ratio to resident population of any state the show has yet visited.
In Japan, too, interest has surged. Last year a Japanese reality TV show that airs nationwide featured NAHBS. Hidetomo Okoshi from the Japan Bicycle Promotion Institute harnessed the energy from this and encouraged Japanese builders and parts manufacturers to participate. His task was no doubt made even easier by the growing history of outstanding work on display at NAHBS by Cherubim’s Shin-Ichi Konno. In total 16 Japanese builders are taking booths on the NAHBS show floor this year.
NAHBS founder and president Don Walker said, “I have wanted to take the show to Colorado for a long time. Denver is a top-tier city so prices are higher, but we took the risk and the industry has stepped up to support the show. It is inspiring to see the level of activity and interest in Colorado and Japan. And let’s not forget that we have 15 New Builder tables this year; I believe this is a record too. And from what I have seen on the bicycles being posted on the NAHBS website, I think we are in for a record high year of design and build quality. NAHBS-goers are in for a treat. The handmade bicycle builders just never cease to impress me in so many ways.”Colorodo is ranked number four by the League of American Bicyclists in its Cycling Friendly States listing, and bicycles play a significant role in the state’s economy.

League of American Bicyclists ranks the states for their federal dollars spent on bicycle projects

Colorado ranks number 2 for bicycle transportation enhancements

Since with the transportation bill coming out of congress these numbers are now just figments of our imagination we should at least relieve the good old days.

Here is the top five states in each category from the article.

Auto Service Company to offer Bicycle Insurance, It All ready offers Rides
April 27, 2012
Better World Club to Offer Bicycle Insurance!New Program to be One of the First in America

The Better World Club will soon be offering one of the nation’s only bike insurance policies. Until this year, cyclists in the U.S. could only obtain protection piecemeal through their auto, homeowner, or health insurance. We are thrilled to announce that we will soon be adding bike-specific insurance to our already-groundbreaking nationwide bicycle roadside assistance program. It will include both medical and liability coverage, with optional coverage available for property damage and theft.
We could use your help to get this program up and spinning! If you’re a cyclist, please answer a few questions about our bike insurance by clicking here.

If you know other cyclists or local bike organizations who might be interested, spread the word.

We fight for everyone’s right to use the road, and for their right to be safe while doing so. We’ve supported safe passing laws, opposed the removal of bike and pedestrian infrastructure funding, and worked with the League of American Bicyclists to provide great incentives to our non-driving members. Now that we’ve convinced insurers to give cyclists the same protection as motorists, we’re ready to show the nation that “alternative” transit doesn’t have to mean facing four lanes of traffic with only a helmet to protect you.

Join Us in the National Bike Challenge! We’re Throwing Down the Gauntlet and Stepping Up to the Plate

Not to mention mixing metaphors. But seriously, folks! An alliance of heavy-hitting bike organizations (including our obvious crush, the League of American Bicyclists) has started a new nation-wide bicycle commute challenge. The program runs May 1 to August 31, and has the goal of uniting 50,000 people to bike 10 million miles. We aren’t sure if they’re ambitious or crazy, but either way, we want in on the action. We’ve signed up a team, and think you should do the same! The user-friendly website helps you track your miles, and participants can win prizes ranging from water bottles to cycling trips through California’s wine country. We have our corkscrew multi-tool all sharpened and ready. Click here to read more!
