Dear James,
Historically, the AAC Board Development Committee—previously known as the Nominating Committee—searched the known universe with the intent of recommending individuals to serve on The American Alpine Club’s Board of Directors. Diving into this assignment we soon discovered the obvious: that the process of finding, developing and selecting new board members was not only challenging but also incredibly rewarding.
We conducted surveys, built job descriptions, performed assessments, reached out to professionals, talked to many of you, and then framed a new Board Development process. While the details may or may not be interesting, the single most difficult issue we faced was “Who.” Who would serve? Who would become our bench strength? Who had the inclination, the desire, the means and the capacity to step into a board role and contribute toward achieving the Club’s vision of inspiring, educating and representing the entire climbing community. This brings us to the reason for this communication and our request of you today. Namely: Who would you recommend to serve on the AAC Board of Directors? We welcome you to consider all options, including yourself. Visit the americanalpineclub.org Jobs page for information to consider. Please take some time to review, think it over and if you would, please get back to us by December 1 with your recommendations. Thank you for your help. Best, Roanne Miller and Michael Kennedy AAC Board Development Committee
AAJ Available to All Climbers
The American Alpine Club is pleased to announce that The American Alpine Journal—the world’s journal of record for notable climbs—is once again available to the public. In July the Club announced that the Journal in printed form would be available only to AAC Members. More than 100 climbers commented on the policy. The remarks ranged from supportive to irate, but every note reinforced the importance of the AAJ to climbers around the world. As a response to this community outpouring, the AAC has made the Journal available to everyone. Full details can be read on Inclined, the AAC blog. Check out the AAC Online Store to get additional copies at your 20% off Member Discount.
