Scouting Experience
James (Jim) H. Moss
I learned to read by reading Boy’s Life, my father a DE had saved his Boy’s Life magazines and as I grew, I tackled the stacks for great reading. At age 7 he enrolled in the Cub Scouts, moved on to Boy Scouting, and with the help of my parents and Earl van Kirk Jr. became an Eagle Scout. I was the Lodge Vice Chief, Regional Vice Chief of the OA, and a youth Vigil member and attended three National OA Conferences as a youth.
That lifelong love of the outdoors continued through 11 years of working at BSA Summer Camps, a degree in Environmental Interpretation, and a career in the law specializing in Outdoor Recreation. My first job after college was as a District Executive for the BSA in Wheeling WV.
I have has worked on the staff of two National Jamborees, attended two Philmont treks, staffed five National Law Enforcement Exploring Conferences, one National Exploring Conference, and a BSA SAR conference, and held most of the volunteer positions in Scouting and Exploring.
I was the DAC Exploring Officers Association Advisor from 1987 to 1992 and received the District Award of Merit from the Exploring Division for his work. In 2017 I received the District Award of Merit from the Timberline District for his work as Timberline District Chairman. With the help of numerous volunteers, Timberline District went from no JTE awards to Gold in one year.
I am the son of an Eagle Scout, the brother of an Eagle Scout, and the uncle to an Eagle Scout as well as the son of two Wood Badgers, two Silver Beavers, and a Distinguished Eagle Scout who also earned the Exploring Silver award.
I practice law in Littleton, CO and am the author of six books and contributed to the BSA Fieldbook.
I currently is serving on the Board of Directors of the Greater Colorado Council, BSA, and am serving as Council Youth Protection Chair, Risk Management Chair, and Wheels & Boards Chair. I serve on the Aerial Sports Committee and Climbing Committee for the council.
