Personal Press Release
Posted: May 14, 2008 Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: Climbing, Mount Everest, Mountaineering, PBS, Public Broadcasting Service, Recreation 3 CommentsAs I mentioned in an earlier post, PBS tonight aired Storm Over Everest. I was asked to participate in a panel discussion on the ethics of guided climbing. You can see the panel discussion at Roundtable: The Ethics of Climbing.

Hey Jim (& Clyde),>>Just came across your blog, Jim. Not sure why I never saw it earlier, but glad to know it now. >>Saw most of “Storm” the other night, too, but missed the start and end. Overall, it was pretty good, but I agree with Clyde that it didn’t seem to add much to the debate and thought, even after 10+ years. >>Too bad, as a great opportunity was there to make a statement, to add to the discussion in some way. >>Just my $0.02. >>Best,>>Jake

I was at the premier at the Telluride MountainFilm Festival last year and Brearshears mentioned that he got interviews from all but one of the participants. It was obvious that Krakauer was not interviewed. Based on Brearshears comments, I left thinking that Krakauer refused to be interviewed.>>I saw Beck’s comments quite differently. Interesting.

The only thing I learned from the show was that Krakauer wasn’t there after all ;-) Appears to have been a real slam on Jon, particularly with Beck’s comments at the end. Overall it was interesting but disappointing that it didn’t really add anything after a decade.
